Abstract

In 1999 Patrícia Portela was rummaging in her grandparents' cellar when she discovered a chest with texts and designs belonging to Acácio Nobre (1869-1968), a brilliant Portuguese polymath who was an avant-garde figure in the early 20th century. Despite his numerous papers and letters he has slipped into obscurity. Portela uses a compilation culled from the recovered documents to restore Nobre to Portugal’s collective memory.
