Abstract

Abstract

This introduction outlines the work of the Centre for Contextual Biblical Interpretation at the Protestant Theological University (Utrecht) and the Faculty of Religion and Theology of the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and positions the Yearbook of Contextual Biblical Interpretation in this academic setting. After sketching the scholarly rationale of the centre, which views contextuality as a catalyst for interpretations and aligns itself with a quest for justice and the good life, the topic of the first instalment of the Yearbook and its contents are presented by outlining what a childist approach amounts to and what hermeneutical benefits it has.
