Samenvatting

De huidige wereldwijde krapte op de arbeidsmarkt creëert meer jobs dan ooit tevoren, wat zowel kansen als onzekerheden met zich meebrengt. Werkzoekenden, met name recent afgestudeerden, ervaren vaak aanzienlijke onzekerheid door hun beperkte kennis over beschikbare jobs. Het vinden van een passende job is echter cruciaal, aangezien de risico’s van een job van lage kwaliteit vergelijkbaar zijn met werkloosheid en deze toekomstig loopbaansucces kunnen belemmeren. Traditioneel richtte onderzoek zich op de kwantiteit van werkzoekgedrag, maar recente wetenschappelijke interesse verschuift naar de kwaliteit van het werkzoekproces. Dit artikel beschrijft de uitkomsten van een promotieonderzoek dat werkzoekkwaliteit conceptualiseert in een vierdimensioneel model, bestaande uit doelformulering, planning, doelnastreving en reflectie. Aan de hand van vier empirische studies werd bewijs geleverd dat werkzoekkwaliteit (a) toegevoegde waarde heeft boven op werkzoekintensiteit en metacognitieve activiteiten, (b) positief gerelateerd is aan verschillende uitkomsten, waaronder arbeidskwaliteit, (c) beïnvloed wordt door persoonlijkheid, attitudes en context, en (d) mogelijk verbeterd kan worden door een online (positieve) reflectie-interventie. Deze bevindingen benadrukken het belang van slimmer zoeken naar werk in plaats van harder, en bieden waardevolle inzichten voor zowel werkzoekenden als beleidsmakers.
