Exodus 3:14 in de Septuaginta: ‘Ik ben “de zijnde”’ Een metafysische uitspraak?
Door Cok den HertogAbstractPoint of departure are the uses of the verb ‘to be’ in Greek. The author investigates the syntaxis of the statement in Exod. 3:14 LXX, the translation method used in it and the theology of the Greek Exodus (status of other gods; character of revelation, this as appearing particularly from the translation of the divine names). He concludes that the participle does not mean true or supreme being nor (real) existence but means a present being. This being of God has an active aspect: it has to be understood in the perspective of a powerful concern with the people of Israel.

The Adversaries Envisaged in the Johannine Epistles
Door Pieter J. LallemanAbstractThere is still unclarity about the people against whom the first two Epistles of John are directed. The article presents a case to regard them as adherents of a specific Christology which saw Christ as a non-human, merely divine being. Historical evidence for the existence of this view can be found in the Acts of John, which must de dated before 150, as well as in Ignatius’ polemics against this view. An exegesis of the relevant passages in the Epistles contains some new insights.

Praktische theologie in de context van de moderniteit Een overzicht
Door Gerben HeitinkAbstractThis article gives a survey of recent developments in the field of practical theology in Western Europe, with special attention to the situation in the Netherlands. Key issue in the chosen approach is modernity. Practical theology can be understood as a discipline of crisis. The changing situation since the sixties came into view in phenomena like secularization and the decline in the participation in worship, confession and church life. The process of differentiation stresses the need to elaborate this article into three directions: to religious experiences of individuals, to social structures of church life and to the public field of Christianity.

Meer MinderAbstractThis article first presents a Dutch translation of the first atheist manifesto in world history, written by the Athenian scholar and despot Kritias at the end of the fifth century BCE, and then sketches the cultural background against which this surprising text has to be understood.
