In the twenties of the sixth century CE there was a short-lived Jewish kingdom in Himyar. The Jewish king Yusuf declared war on the Christians of the city of Najrân who were supported by the Christian kingdom of Ethiopia, the latter being a long-standing foe of Himyar.
