Samenvatting

In dit artikel wordt een beschrijving gegeven van de belangrijkste inzichten die de auteur de afgelopen 10 jaar heeft opgedaan op basis van videoobservatiestudies van de interactie tussen jonge kinderen en hun verzorgers in landen die maar zelden vertegenwoordigd zijn in gehechtheidsonderzoek. Beperkende culturele normen over wat sensitief opvoederschap is worden kritisch besproken aan de hand van beschrijvingen van het videomateriaal en de gesprekken die het materiaal doorgaans uitlokt tijdens presentaties aan professionals.
