Samenvatting

Dit artikel kijkt naar de invloed van traditionele en sociale media op polarisatieprocessen. Vier verschillende soorten polarisatie worden onderscheiden: ideologische, affectieve, feitelijke overtuiging en waargenomen polarisatie. In tegenstelling tot heersende negatieve verhalen over de impact van digitalisering op polarisatieprocessen, pleit het artikel voor een genuanceerde benadering en wordt de behoefte aan empirisch onderzoek benadrukt.
