Talentmanagement (TM) wordt steeds belangrijker voor organisaties om succesvol te zijn op de lange termijn, waarbij technologie in toenemende mate wordt gebruikt voor talentidentificatie en ontwikkeling. Er is echter nog beperkte kennis over hoe geavanceerde technologieën talentmanagementactiviteiten veranderen. Dit onderzoek gaat daarom in op de vraag op welke manieren deze technologieën worden ingezet en hoe dit talentmanagementpraktijken vormgeeft. Deze vragen worden beantwoord op basis van een verkennende casestudie bij voetbalclub Heracles Almelo, een topsportorganisatie actief in de Nederlandse Eredivisie. Op basis van interviews, observaties en nieuwsartikelen analyseerden we de activiteiten en de inzet van technologie bij de instroom, doorstroom, en uitstroom van talent. De resultaten laten zien dat talentmanagementactiviteiten veranderen in samenhang met materiële en sociale aspecten: door uitgebreide verzameling van prestatiedata worden deze technologieën gebruikt ter ondersteuning van de identificatie en ontwikkeling van talent - waarbij rollen van medewerkers en de organisatiecontext co-evolueren. Op basis van deze inzichten bediscussiëren we implicaties voor talentmanagement en beschrijven we lessen voor de HR-praktijk.
