Het takenpakket-model stelt dat technische systemen de task pool oftewel het 'takenpakket' , i.e. het geheel aan door mensen te verrichten taken, beïnvloeden, en dat de verdeling van die taken over werknemers een kwestie is van regels voor functieontwerp: via (al dan niet expliciet geformuleerde en gebruikte) ontwerpregels worden taken samengevoegd tot functies.

Het zonder meer accepteren van één model voor onderzoek naar technologie en arbeid lijkt me niet de aangewezen weg. Uitbreiding of aanpassingen van het model met nieuwe relevante concepten en hypothesen blijft dan achterwege.

Het verschijnen van een nieuw leerboek is altijd een belangrijk moment voor een vakgebied. In een leerboek wordt samengevat en gecodificeerd wat het vak meent te weten en wat het bij voorrang aan 'het volk' wil communiceren. Leerboeken zijn de boeken die massaal gelezen worden en aldus de geest van een nieuwe generatie helpen vormen.
